Symposium: tb and hiv
June 20th, 2012
Organized by AIGHD and AMC, Department of Global Health
In collaboration with KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation
The symposium was organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the Chair of Professor Frank Cobelens in Epidemiology and Control of Poverty-related Infectious Diseases.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in HIV-infected patients, in particular in poor countries. TB-HIV co-infection poses formidable challenges to the control of the global epidemic of each of these infections. This symposium aims at presenting and discussing recent insights into the immunopathology, epidemiology, treatment and prevention of TB-HIV co-infection, drawing from various fields of biomedical science and clinical practice. In addition directions for further research in this area are outlined.
