Sonia Boender

Sonia Boender received her master in Health Science with a specialization in Public Health and Infectious Diseases at the VU University Amsterdam in 2011, and a postgraduate-certificate in International Public Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in 2012 (with distinction). Subsequently Sonia worked as a junior lecturer at the VU University at the Department of Health Science, teaching and coordinating courses on infectious diseases and epidemiology & biostatistics.


Since February 2013, she is a PhD student at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development and the Global Child Health Group of the Academic Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam. Prof Tobias Rinke de Wit and Prof Michael Boele van Hensbroek are her promotors and Dr Kim Sigaloff and Dr Job Calis her co-promotors. Her research is focused on HIV drug resistance in adults (PASER cohort) and children (MARCH cohort) in sub-Saharan Africa.
